on the western slope of the Sierras between Sacramento and Lake
Tahoe, the South Fork of the American River flows past historic
Sutter's Mill where James Marshall started the California Gold Rush
with his discovery of gold in 1848.
The
21 mile journey from Chili Bar to Folsom Lake races through over
30 rapids! Beginning in a swift, but mellow section for paddling
practice, you will soon bounce, yell, get wet and laugh through
Fowler's Rock, Satan's Cesspool, Haystack Canyon, Bouncing Rock
and Hospital Bar Rapids. In the Upper Chili Bar Run the action begins
immediately with Meatgrider, and other rapids including Racehorse Bend,
Triple Threat, and the famed Troublemaker. |
When
is the best time to go rafting on the South Fork American? Summer
weekends are the most popular, but our favorite times are the late
spring and early fall, and especially midweek.
Prices (not included is
a non refundable $10 per person service fee):
* Two day trips (21 miles) - 2 nights camping,
5 meals incl.
$239 (Fri) - $249 (Sat) - $229 (Sun) - $219 (Mon-Thu)
* One day trips (13 miles) - $ 114 (Weekend) $ 100 (Midweek),
duration 6-7 hours
* Half day trips( 8 miles) - $ 99 (Weekend) $ 84 (Midweek), duration 5 hours
12th person is free
Extras: With advance notice we can add breakfast and/ or dinner (when
available) to your trip package as well as camping before or after your
trip. The rates are as follows:
Camping $8/ person and night
Dome Tent $10/ tent (sleeps 1 or 2 persons)
Tent Cabin with off floor bed, $30/ cabin (sleeps 1 or 2 persons)
* larger cabins available
Breakfast $5/pp
Dinner $12/pp
Trip Departures:
One and Two day trips depart every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday,
April to October.
Half day trips are available every day. Meet at 9:30 am
Cancellations:
River trips are very popular and we must often turn people away. For
this reason the following cancellation policies apply. If you cancel
more than 60 days prior to the trip departure, you will receive a
refund of 50% of the required deposit. With 30 days or less notice, all
trip fees are forfeited unless we can resell your space in which case
you will receive a refund of monies paid less a $ 10 per person
reservation fee. |
