6 Day / 5 Night-Sonoma and Napa Valley via Bicycle

California Wine country is for cyclists, lover, and wine aficionados. Romantic landscapes have inspired authors and artists for generations and are dotted with wineries, offering samples of world renowned wines. You'll see the ruggedly beautiful Pacific coast and towering forests of centuries old redwood trees. And the wine...you'll taste robust reds, sharp whites and enchanting champagne. Not only does this area offer excellent cycling and hiking but is also famous for art, architecture and some of the world's finest restaurants.

Day 1: Arrive in San Francisco or Drive/Transfer to Calistoga in the heart of the Wine Country where early arrivals can cycle an 8 mile long warm-up ride. Stroll through town, enjoy a mud bath, massage or just relax by the pool. We overnight at an elegant Bed & Breakfast.

Day 2: Calistoga to Yountville. We cycle along the Silverado Trail venturing off on some hidden country lanes to visit small wineries. We spend the night in a marvelous Inn right in Yountville. You'll have the opportunity to explore the many choices of restaurants.

Day 3: Yountville to Sonoma. Biking the southern Napa Valley and into the Carneros district we enter the "Burgundy of California", an area famous for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. One of our stops today is Cordoniu Napa, with spectacular views of San Francisco and the Bay. You'll see a world famous Brandy Distillery, and some of the least crowded roads of the trip. We cycle on to the town of Sonoma, check into our lodging and stroll the historic plaza before dinner.

Day 4: Sonoma to Bodega Bay. Today's ride takes us up the Valley of the Moon on our way to the Pacific Ocean at Bodega Bay. As we enter the rolling hills of western Sonoma County we leave the vines and head out to the coast. We stay at an Inn over-looking the Bay and its fishing village. Dinner tonight is a seafood lover's delight: the fresh catch of the day!

Day 5: Bodega Bay to Healdsburg. We start out along the ruggedly beautiful Sonoma coastline, and then we head inland along the sleepy Russian river, cycling through cathedral-like groves of ancient Redwood trees. Our first winery stop is a Korbel Champagne Cellars and a sip of bubbly. Tonight we lodge at the famous Madrona Manor and dine at their superb restaurant.

Day 6: Healdsburg. Our final day takes us into the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. Often compared to France's Provence, this area offers us the quiet country cycling and small wineries that are quintessentially "Wine Country".

*Easy to moderate routes over mostly flat terrain, with a daily average of 30-50 miles (with shorter and longer options) and full van support. "You'll have a truly grape time!"

Includes all meals except two dinners, bike rental, transfer and all accommodations in luxury Inns, B&B's or Spas.

6 Day / 5 Night-Multisport Wine Country

We make an adventure out of your vacation with the best this area has to offer. Biking, hiking and beginner rock climbing, horseback riding and sea kayaking. Each activity is designed with the beginner to intermediate in mind, and is suited for virtually everyone. Optional activities may be interchanged as you wish.

A Sample 6-Day trip, Customize your vacation with your favorite sports.

Day 1: Sunday, Arrive in San Francisco or Drive/Transfer to Calistoga in the heart of the Wine Country where early arrivals can cycle an 8 mile long warmup ride. Stroll through town, go shopping, enjoy a mud bath, or just relax by the pool. We stay the next three nights at our favorite B&B. Dinner is at 7 pm.

Day 2: Monday, Sip 'n Cycle: Today we'll take an off-the-beaten-path look at the scenic upper Napa Valley. You'll travel along country lanes to small, family-owned wineries that really represent traditional winemaking. We've selected wineries that are large and small, historic and modern, "one man shows" and extrodinary "shrines to wine". Along the way you learn how wine is made and then tour a cellar to see how wine is made into champagne. All in all, you'll travel about 20 miles over mostly flat, easy terrain.

Day 3: Tuesday, Trek above the Valley: We'll start with a van ride up to Robert Louis Stevenson State Park, named after the famous author (Rock Climbing is available at an additional charge). His summers were spent as a "Silverado Squatter" here to escape the city and cure his ailing health. We hike past an old quicksilver (cinnabar) mine and eventually hike to the summit of Mt. St Helena and its unsurpassed views of San Francisco, the Sierras, the Pacific Coast and of course the world famous vineyards below. Here we have lunch before descending either on foot or by mountain bike. We then van to the small historic town of Occidental located in a narrow valley near the coast. Explore town and treat yourself to a Japanese enzyme bath!

Day 4: Wednesday, Horsback Riding (at an additional charge) or Coast Hike: Today we will spend the day along the Sonoma Coast north of Bodega Bay. We'll walk along the coast on a spectacular trail with vistas overlooking the crashing Pacific then head inland for views of the Russian River valley. If horseback riding is your choice, we'll do a ride out of Chanselor Ranch either along the coast and Bodega dunes, or through the coastal hills with a visit to a wetland wild life project. After lunch on the beach we'll take a short hike before settling into our B&B for the night. You'll have time to soak in the hot tub before dinner which is at 7 pm at a popular seafood restaurant.

Day 5: Thursday, Canoe Adventure: Today we will canoe the Russian River. The river is warm and clear with the occasional Class II rapids aimed at the novice or intermediate and flows through a quiet scenic landscape. You will see lots of hawks and egrets and have plenty of opportunities for swim breaks. Dine at 7 pm.

Day 6: Friday, Dry Creek Valley Cycling, (17 miles, easy with mild grades) Our favorite ride of the trip! We cycle the small roads of this narrow valley and explore the many picturesque wineries of this less travelled wine region. It is know for Zinfandel and Cabernet grapes, many of which go into the wines you've been tasting throughout your trip. We visit wineries such as Lambert Bridge, Quivira, and Preston among others. Our trip ends at about 2:30 pm to allow time for you to get your belongings ready and your wine ready to ship home. We stop off at a wine shipper and then it's off to San Francisco and points beyond. We say our farewell and bid you good-bye.

Includes all meals except two dinners, bike rental, van transfer and all accommodations in luxury Inns, B&B's or Spas.
